Topic Overview:
The Aves Compartidas third grade curriculum is centered around the importance of pollinators. We use project based learning to showcase shared migratory pollinating birds between Oregon and Guanajuato.
Highlighted Bird Species:
- Rufous Hummingbird (Colibri Rufo)
Methods:
The Aves Compartidas third-grade team has created a series of seven lesson plans that incorporate both Spanish and English. Or lessons focus on pollinating birds that migrate between Eugene, Oregon, and Guanajuato, Mexico. Our methods utilize project-based activities that include artistic, collaborative, and visual forms of learning. Specifically, our class spent the six-week program creating posters of the Rufous Hummingbird and were given a chance to display their hard work to their peers. The posters included drawings, geography, habitat, pollination, and migration.
This curriculum is also focused on developing students’ scientific observation skills and expanding their understanding of migration, pollination, geography, habitat, and potential threats to migratory birds with ways to combat them.
